Library wins holiday decorating contest

KING CITY — King City Library was recently named the winner of the 10th Annual Christmas Business Decorating Contest, presented by the King City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture for the holidays.

Judging was based on five criteria: window presentation, interior decor, execution of this year’s theme “A Country Christmas,” exterior of business and overall impression.

Contest Chairman Oscar Avalos presented the award Nov. 30 to King City Librarian Robin Cauntay and window decorators Sally Ybarra and Alyssa Alvarez.

“King City Library had cows as reindeer pulling Cowboy Santa’s sleigh, a huge barn that was painted by Alyssa Alvarez, and the interior had bandanas and boots as decorations — a lot of elements that made up the perfect ‘Country Christmas,’” Avalos said.

Ybarra, a longtime library volunteer, designed and coordinated the decorating effort, while her granddaughter, Alvarez, a 2017 Soledad High School graduate, created the barn for the window display. Stop by the library at 404 Broadway St. to view their work.

“We want to thank all the businesses that entered this year,” Avalos said. “They did an amazing job.”
