Lew Kent Borzini, 76, of Greenfield, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday December 29th. Lew was born on September 1st, 1941 in King City to Lucio and Bernice Borzini.
Lew was a King City high school graduate who excelled in athletics. But Lew’s true passion was his horses. Lew carried on his family’s tradition of ranching, riding and team roping for most of his life. Lew always had an eye for a good horse – he owned some of the best. He also had an eye for a good team roping partner. Lew won many of his trophy saddles and buckles with some of the world’s best heelers as well as with his many good friends he made throughout his life.
After high school Lew enrolled at Cal Poly where he excelled as a rodeo competitor and as captain of the Cal Poly rodeo team. After college Lew hit the trail running launching a variety of careers that included (but not limited to) construction, sand and gravel and real estate developer/broker.
Lew was also a member of the riding group Rancheros Visitadores for many years. Every year in May Lew looked forward to loading up his horses and mules to participate in the week-long festivities in the Santa Inez Valley. Lew and his mules walked away many years with the first-place prize in the mule race! Lew also owned some nice race horses that gave them a run for their money. Lew participated in all the riding events during the week and came home a winner year after year.
Lew is survived by his two children, Audra (Rob) Vaccarezza and Justin (Stephanie) Borzini and his brother Ray (Debby) Borzini. Lew is also survived by his six grandchildren – Jenieveve, Jarrod, Jordan, Jarralynn and Jassieley Borzini and Hunter Vaccarezza.
Lew was especially thankful for his two children, his daughter-in-law Stephanie and son-in-law Rob who helped care for him during the last few years of his declining health. Audra and Rob cooked countless meals for Lew until it became necessary for in home care. Justin and Stephanie stepped up and personally provided Lew the care he needed so that he could remain in his own home.
Lew was preceded in death in 2008 by his wife, Vonna Lee Borzini, the love of his life.
A celebration of Lew’s life will be held Friday January 26th from 1 until 4 at the Greenfield Memorial Hall located on the north end of Greenfield at 615 El Camion Real.
