My name is Linda Benway and I have lived in King City for over 50 years. During this time, I have worked in the field of education as a teacher/coach at King City High School for 38 years and as an administrator. I have also been on the Board of Trustees for the past eight years.
Safety is a key component in any school or community setting. As an educator, I know how important it is for us to have a safe place for students to learn and where teachers and staff can provide the best educational experiences for all students. Unfortunately, something else we have to deal with are the gangs. Whether it is with an incident at the school or off campus, or graffiti and tagging around town, additional police services are required to help prevent and investigate crime.
The additional sales tax would also provide equipment for our King City volunteer firemen — they are my heroes! Back in the ’90s when Villa Drive was flooded and I had 5 feet of water standing in my house, they helped rescue me.
Besides police and fire protection, everyone knows potholes need to be filled and streets need to be repaved.
I will be very honest — I don’t like taxes either — but I am willing to invest in King City and its future. Besides, sales tax is a fair tax because everyone contributes.
