To the Editor:
As confusion grows throughout the land, and respect for others, the rule of law, and all that we thought we had loses to expanding tyranny, I ponder the words read in countless churches this Sunday from the Gospel of Luke:
“Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.”
And the follow up to those Beatitudes, or blessings:
“But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.”
I wonder how this country is becoming great by making the whole world cower, making constitutionally created co-equal branches of our government bend knees to the almighty Executive.
I sincerely ask that we all step back and ask ourselves, “Is this who we truly are?” Is the illusion that prices will somehow go down enough to mask the reality of pain, the loss of stability and the orderly processes of change?
What I observe is attacking individuals simply doing difficult jobs for very little pay, preventing disease, caring for the least among us, collecting taxes to pay for what we all benefit from in different degrees and manners on hyped of charges that are never proven or even examined.
All this is being done to cover up who actually gains from all the chaos and confusion. The richest land in all the world is being brought to its knees by the richest man in that same world, and greed.
Who are we kidding? It’s ourselves we should blame for our own fear and hatred.
