As a former mayor, I am in favor of Measure P.
Measure P will sustain King City’s existing one-cent sales tax and add an additional 1/2 cent. This increase will put us in line with other cities in Monterey and San Luis Obispo counties.
And while a 1/2-cent increase seems small, it will provide much needed revenue to fill the shortfall in our City finances.
Safety services like police staffing, equipment for our volunteer fire department and street improvements will benefit from it.
A sales tax is the fairest tax. It applies to everyone and, in fact, 60% of the tax will come from tourists and visitors to King City. Most importantly, 100% of the revenue from this tax stays within our community.
I love King City. I’ve lived here all my life. I am proud of what our town has been able to achieve. However, we badly need a shot in the arm and this small increase will help us keep up.
