KING CITY — Grace Shepherd hammered down 40 kills in two games to lead the King City Lady Mustangs into tonight’s Central Coast Section Division IV semifinals at Scotts Valley High School.
King City the #4 seed in Division IV earned the semifinals berth with win last week over Gunderson and Monte Vista Christian. Tonight the Lady Mustangs will play #1 seeded Sacred Heart Prep for an opportunity to play in the championship game. A win by King City will send the Mustangs to the championship game.
In the opening round game on November 1st in San Jose the Lady Mustangs defeated Gunderson 25-17, 25-17, 25-6. Shepherd finished with 18 kills and six digs and Delaney Carroll had seven kills. Nancy Andrade led King City with 19 digs and Julyssa Arreola finished with five service aces.
The win over Gunderson earned the Lady Mustangs a home game on Saturday against the defending Division IV champion and #5 seeded Monte Vista Christian Mustangs of Watsonville. King City won the battle of the Mustangs, 25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 25-17. Shepherd led King City with 22 kills and 16 digs. Megan Flores had seven kills, Carroll had six kills, Andrade had 17 digs, and Ana Mendez had seven digs.
King City improved to 26-3 after the wins over Gunderson and Monte Vista.
