SOUTH COUNTY — The King City Lady Mustang volleyball team will begin the Central Coast Section Division IV Playoffs on the road tonight at Gunderson High School. King City received the #4 seed in the playoffs but will travel to San Jose to play 13th seeded Gunderson in a 7 p.m. contest.
Sacred Heart Prep was seeded first in Division IV and received a first-round bye along with #2 seed Notre-Dame Belmont. Other Mission Trail Athletic League teams in Division IV teams include Carmel and Pacific Grove. The Padres were seeded 6th and play at #11 Terra Nova and Pacific Grove was the #14 seed and plays at #3 seed Harbor. Santa Catalina, the MTAL champions were seeded first in Division V.
The Mustangs assured themselves of the automatic seed in the playoffs with a 3-2 win over Carmel last week in King City. The scores against the Padres were: 24-26, 25-23, 25-20, 24-26 15-8. Grace Shepherd led King City with 16 kills and 24 digs and Megan Flores added eight kills and 29 assists. Cassidy Flores contributed with 17 assists.
Last Monday King City defeated Soledad High 25-16, 25-22, 25-18. Shepherd had 16 kills, Delaney Carroll added six kills, and Megan Flores led King City with 20 assists. King City finished league with a 12-2 record and were 24-3 overall.
Gonzales High finished the season with a 0-3 loss to Carmel and Greenfield completed the season in the Coastal Division with a loss to Pacific Collegiate.
“We lost in four games but were in every game,” said Greenfield head coach Mark Francis. “The games were actually pretty close.”
