CARMEL — A tight game got out of reach for the King City Mustangs in a 15-2 league setback at home against the Soledad Lady Aztecs. The score was tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the third when Soledad broke the tie with a run followed by a two-run fourth inning, a five-run sixth inning and a lone run in the seventh.

“We played a close game through four innings,” said the King City head coach. “Julie Arreola had a double, two walks, a run and an RBI in the effort. Alexus Andrade was 2 x 4 with an RBI and Lauren Johnson continues to have solid defense in centerfield and quality at bats. She went 1 x 4 at the plate with an RBI and a stolen base.”

Lauren Johnson went 4 x 4 and had a triple in her first at bat. Daniella Orozco, Megan Flores and Brazil Perez each contributed with a hit and a run scored against Soledad. The Lady Aztecs outhit King City 10-9 in the game.

The King City Lady Broncos beat Soledad with a 5-0 shutout. Kathy Acero threw a one-hitter and had six strikeouts while her defense held strong behind her. Offensively Elena Vazquez went 1 x 3 with two RBI’s, Marlene Diaz was 1 x 2 with a triple and an RBI. Jasmine Guillen was 1 x 3, Mari Cenobio was 1 x 2 and Ivy Hearne contributed with an RBI.

On Friday the Lady Mustangs lost 16-0 on the road to the Carmel Padres at Carmel Middle School. Lauren Johnson and Alexus Andrade went 1 x 2 at the plate for the two King City hits.

In the JV game, the Padres downed King City 18-2. Kathy Acero had six strikeouts as a pitcher for King City. Paola Garcia went 1 x 2, Allison Wagner went 1 x 2 with an RBI. Mari Cenobio went 1 x 2 and Ivy Hearne had an RBI.

Yesterday the King City teams hosted the Pacific Grove Breakers on the Mustang playing fields.
