KING CITY — The King City Lady Mustang volleyball team swept the visiting North Salinas Vikings 3-0 last week at home Aug. 28. King City beat their foes from Salinas, 25-21, 25-22 and 25-19.

Grace Shepherd led King City with 20 kills and added 14 digs. Nancy Andrade finished with eight kills and 22 digs and Ivy Hearne had a team-high 16 assists and added five kills. Kayla Silva contributed with 19 assists and Kathy Acero finished with seven digs.

In the JV contest, the Lady Broncos beat the Vikings, 25-16 and 25-21.

Breanna Owens led the team with seven assists and four aces. Freshman Liz Hernandez and Gisela Contreras helped carry the team to victory with aggressive serving.

Last Thursday on the Monterey Peninsula, the host Seaside Spartans defeated the Lady Mustangs, 23-25, 13-25 and 22-25. Shepherd led King City with 19 kills and Andrade added five digs. Alexia Head added three digs.

The Lady Broncos downed the Spartans, 25-19 and 25-11.

Freshman Sabi Silva was applauded for a great night at the net and behind the serving line as she led the team with four aces. Jennifer Lugo and Hernandez combined for 10 digs and Ximena Denia contributed four aces.

Last night King City hosted Gonzales High and tomorrow will host the Everett Alvarez Eagles.
