KING CITY — The 30th annual joint meeting of King City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture and King City Rotary Club to promote Beautification Week is planned for Wednesday, June 15, at noon.

Unlike last year when the groups gathered virtually, this year’s event is scheduled back at the traditional setting in San Lorenzo Park at the DeAnza Building picnic area.

The public is invited, but those interested need to contact the Chamber office at 831-385-3814 or [email protected] to RSVP. The luncheon includes a hamburger barbecue prepared by the King City Rotary BBQ crew on the pits donated to the park by the Rotary Club.

The main guest speaker for the day will be Esmeralda Zamora-Fajardo, architectural drafter for Reiss Design Studio, PC of San Luis Obispo. Her talk is entitled, “The Role of Architecture in Beautifying Downtown King City.”

Reiss Design has been hired by the City of King as its Architect of Record (AOR) for miscellaneous projects. They are currently preparing plans for converting the historic building at 110 N. Vanderhurst Ave. into a new home for the Chamber of Commerce as well as other downtown projects.

Karen Jernigan, coordinator for the Chamber’s annual Beautification Week, will also give an update on plans for this year’s event. As in the past, the concept for Beautification Week is to ask every person who lives and works in King City to do one thing to improve the appearance of their property.

Waste Management, Salinas Valley Recycles, King City in Bloom, San Lorenzo Park and the City of King are partners in the Beautification Week event, which is scheduled for June 18-26.
