GREENFIELD — A King City man was arrested Friday evening after Greenfield police responded to reports of a suspected domestic violence incident.
According to the Greenfield Police Department, officers were dispatched July 24 to the 1100 block of Heidi Drive after multiple community members called 911 to report what appeared to be a domestic violence incident.
During the investigation, officers determined that Manuel Hernandez Gonzalez, 28, of King City, battered and strangled an adult female partner.
Police said that before officers made contact with Hernandez, he discarded a Glock 43X handgun on the ground. A nearby resident later found the firearm and immediately notified officers, who recovered it. Investigators said the handgun was equipped with a large-capacity magazine and had an altered serial number.
Hernandez was arrested and booked into Monterey County Jail on suspicion of felony domestic violence, strangulation, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a large-capacity magazine and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number.
On Monday, Greenfield Police Department credited residents for helping bring the incident to a safe conclusion.
“We appreciate the community members who recognized something was wrong and called 911, as well as the resident who promptly reported the discarded firearm to officers. Their quick actions allowed officers to respond swiftly, safely recover the firearm, and help prevent further violence,” stated the department.
Police also reminded the public that domestic violence often escalates over time and encouraged anyone experiencing abuse or who knows someone in need of help to contact local law enforcement or a domestic violence advocacy organization for support.
