KING CITY — Officers from the King City Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 400 block of Ellis Street for a vehicle code violation on April 9 at about 10:26 p.m.

During the traffic stop, the driver — 39-year-old Efrain Castillo of King City — displayed “objective signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication,” police said.

Officers also found a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun inside the vehicle.

Castillo, who has a prior felony conviction that prohibits him from owning or possessing firearms, was subsequently arrested for possession of a loaded concealable firearm in a vehicle, being a felon in possession of a firearm and DUI.

He was booked into Monterey County Jail.
