KING CITY — King City High School’s Class of 1984 gathered for its 40th reunion last month at Pozzi’s Stampede in King City.

The Aug. 24 event saw 50 attendees, including some from the Class of 1983, come together to reminisce and reconnect that Saturday night.

“We had a fantastic reunion event,” said co-organizer Marcus von Engel, adding that it was “great to see everyone.”

Guests enjoyed a steak dinner served by Pozzi’s, with desserts donated by alumnae DeeDee Avila (Roth) and Sami Jo Johnsen (Sans). The evening also featured wine contributions from von Engel, Mary Frudden-Nuki and Brent Bowman.

Class president John Wiley and ASB president Kim Feldhaus (Handley) gave heartfelt speeches reflecting on the lasting bonds forged during their time at King City High.

Additional speakers, including Bowman, Dora Mosqueda (Sanchez), Jeff Sherman, Cara Cirillo (Smith), Audra Borzini and Brian Pozzi, shared memories of growing up in King City, Greenfield and Lockwood. They spoke of how fast time has passed and the joy of seeing old friends again.

While most of the attendees still reside in Monterey or San Luis Obispo counties, several made the trip from as far as Idaho and Arizona. A poignant moment of silence honored seven classmates who have passed away: Larry Acosta, Tom Stanley, Elvira Cortez, Peggy Sirak, John Hermosillo, Marty Rodriguez and Melissa Bray.

In addition to von Engel, the reunion was also organized by Tricia Martinus (Acosta), who expressed her gratitude for a successful event.

“Great time was had by all… big shoutout to Pozzi’s for a wonderful evening and a huge thank you to Marcus von Engel for all his hard work and the little details that made the event special,” Martinus said on the group’s Facebook page.

The evening’s décor was enhanced by floral arrangements courtesy of the KCHS Floral Shop, adding a special touch to the gathering. The reunion was a reminder of the strong ties that continue to connect the Class of 1984 after four decades.
