SALINAS VALLEY — The King City Lady Mustangs improved to 2-4 in the Cypress Division and 8-8 overall after shutting out the host Gonzales Spartans last Monday, 15-0, in high school softball.
Alizah Carrillo pitched one inning and Ariah Suarez took the win pitching four innings and striking out seven for the Mustangs.
King City had 15 hits and were led by Carrillo and Avery Munoz, who finished the game with three hits apiece. Kaylin Arvizu, Crystal Paramo and Ally Chavez had two hits apiece.
Hanna Camarena and Kaya Correa had hits for Gonzales, which is 0-5 in the Cypress Division and 0-12 overall.
Last Wednesday, the Spartans were beaten at home by a 23-2 score by Monte Vista Christian. Mariana Camarena, Giselle Hernandez, Victoria Turpin and Kaya Correa had base hits for Gonzales.
King City played at Seaside on Monday and will host the Seaside Spartans on Thursday at home. Gonzales played at Paso Robles on Monday and will travel to Castroville on Wednesday to play North Monterey County, before finishing the week by hosting the Rancho San Juan Trailblazers.
Soledad played in Salinas against Everett Alvarez on Tuesday and will play at Alisal on Thursday in Salinas. Greenfield played rival King City on the road Tuesday, will host Monte Vista Christian on Wednesday and then travel to Pebble Beach on Friday to play the Robert Louis Stevenson Pirates.
BASEBALL
After a week off, the Gonzales Spartans (0-3 in the Cypress, 0-4 overall) returned to action against host Pajaro Valley on Monday and will host the Grizzlies on Thursday afternoon.
King City is 4-0 in the Cypress and 6-5 overall with games this week at Seaside on Monday and a home game with Seaside on Thursday.
Soledad is 5-8-1 overall and in eighth place in the Gabilan Division. The Aztecs lost to Monte Vista Christian by a 2-0 score last Wednesday and then bounced back to win 11-1 against MVC at home on Friday. Soledad hosted North Salinas on Monday and will host the Monterey Toreadores on Thursday.
Greenfield is 9-6 overall and will host Rancho San Juan on Thursday afternoon.
