GREENFIELD — Shotokan Karate students from Soledad, San Luis Obispo and Greenfield took karate exams for the first time ever in Greenfield.

The exams were held on Friday at the Greenfield Recreation Center. Attending the exams was Sensei Kyle Funakoshi of the Shotokan Karate in Milpitas.

Karate Dojos participating in the exams were: Soledad (Sensei Leo Arimas Dojo); San Luis Obispo (Sensei Luis Garcia Dojo); and Greenfield/King City Dojos (Sensei Rigo Carrillo, Roosevelt Sosa, and Olgalidia Ramirez.

“We would like to congratulate all the students that took the exams,” said Olgalidia Ramirez. “It was nice to be able to host the exams here in Greenfield. Our dojo from King City did well in the exams and two weeks ago in San Jose we had Italee Mendez place second and Diego Madrid take first at the Spring Tournament in San Jose.”
