KING CITY — Square dancers from all over gathered at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds last weekend to kick off the 39th Annual Winter Festival.

The Jan. 18-20 event began Friday evening as couples arrived at the fairgrounds to start dancing square- and round-style, with callers calling out the steps on stage.

On Saturday, the couples continued to practice steps during the day and showed off their skills in the evening during the Opening Ceremony. Sunday closed out the festival, with dancers taking their final steps at noon.
