KING CITY — A new Grocery Outlet store opened May 7 in King City, bringing expanded grocery options, local jobs and community partnerships to South Monterey County.
Nearly 100 customers lined up outside Thursday morning as the independently operated store at 1015 Broadway St. marked its grand opening. The celebration included early festivities and a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by community members and local officials, including King City Mayor Mike LeBarre and U.S. Rep. Zoe Lofgren.
The opening also featured a $1,000 donation presentation benefiting the Mustang Bench Booster Club as part of the store’s community outreach efforts.
In a social media post announcing the opening, owners Joshua and Deleynna Cox introduced themselves to the community and shared their background in grocery, pharmacy and retail leadership.
“Reigning savings have arrived in King City,” the couple wrote. “I’m Joshua Cox, and my wife, Deleynna, and I are proud to welcome you to the new King City Grocery Outlet, now open at 1015 Broadway Street.”
The couple said they met at California State University, Fresno, in 2011, married in 2016 and have two children.
“Family means the world to us, and that’s exactly how we plan to serve King City, with a family-first mindset,” they wrote.
Joshua Cox, who was born in Visalia, said he has more than 20 years of experience in pharmacy and grocery leadership. Deleynna Cox, a Salinas native, previously helped manage her family’s party rental business and has 15 years of experience in retail leadership, customer service and community development.
The owners said they plan to support local organizations, including the Mustang Bench Booster Club and the Community Food Pantry of King City.
“Thank you for welcoming us,” they wrote. “We can’t wait to uplift King City, treat everyone like family, and make a lasting positive impact.”
Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez, whose county office is located next door to the new store on Broadway Street, also welcomed the business in a social media post.
“While I was unable to attend today’s ribbon cutting in person, I’m grateful my team was there to represent our office and celebrate this exciting milestone with the community,” Lopez wrote. “Congratulations to Grocery Outlet on your grand opening in King City and thank you for investing in our South County communities, creating local jobs, and expanding access to affordable grocery options for local families.”
Grocery Outlet offers discounted, name-brand groceries and rotating closeout deals. The new store is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
