MONTEREY COUNTY — South Monterey County voters have returned their ballots to choose candidates for city councils, school boards and other offices, as well as decide the fate of local measures in the Nov. 8 California General Election.

According to Monterey County Elections, there are 209,045 registered voters in the county. The latest numbers show that 56,586 ballots have been cast as of Tuesday, representing a 27.07% voter turnout so far.

In the General Election, all voters — regardless of political party preference — saw the same top two candidates for state and federal offices. Voters were also able to vote on local contests and on Congressional and Assembly districts as determined by their residential address.

Elections officials began reporting results around 8 p.m. Tuesday, with subsequent hourly reports being issued until all ballots cast at the polls were counted.

Additional reports issued after Election Day include vote-by-mail ballots that were received by mail or at the polls, vote-by-mail ballots postmarked by Election Day and received by Nov. 15, and provisional ballots.

As of Wednesday, the latest county and statewide election results are:
