JOLON — Firefighters are currently responding to a fire that has burned at least 1,700 acres in the Gavalan area/live-fire convoy course at Fort Hunter Liggett, base officials said.

The fire broke out around noon Thursday and is about 60 percent contained as of 4:30 p.m.

Crews from Fort Hunter Liggett Fire Department, CALFIRE and the Forest Service are on scene. The fire is expected to be fully contained by Friday morning.

Officials have not determined the cause of the fire at this time.
