KING CITY — The City of King is inviting residents to come together for a Community Vigil on Wednesday, April 9, celebrating the life and service of King City Police Sgt. Ryan Kenedy.
The gathering will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the City Hall lawn, located at 212 S. Vanderhurst. The event aims to pay tribute to Kenedy, who tragically died due to a medical emergency while on duty March 25.
Community members are encouraged to attend and show their support, honoring Kenedy’s dedication and contributions to King City throughout his 11-year career.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to express their condolences and share their memories through cards provided at the vigil. These messages will be collected and presented to Kenedy’s family.
Everyone in the community is welcome to participate.
In addition to the vigil, a fundraiser will be held Saturday, April 19, to further support Kenedy’s family. Residents can purchase chicken takeout meals, including chicken, rice, salad and bolillo bread, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside the Pavilion at Salinas Valley Fair in King City.
For tickets or more information, contact Margarita Lopez at 831-601-8211.
For those unable to attend the fundraiser, donations can be made to assist the Kenedy family through the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC). The campaign goal is set for $50,000, of which nearly $13,000 had been raised as of April 4.
“Sergeant Kenedy was respected by all that he came in contact with. He was known to those around him as an intelligent and caring person who showed he cared for those who worked for him and those he surrounded himself with,” according to the campaign website. “Most of all he was a loving husband to his wife Soledad Kenedy and a devoted son. Showing the families of our fallen financial assistance helps ease the burden of their loss of a loved one. The King City Police Sergeants Association would be grateful for any support as we as an association grieve the loss of one of our Brothers.”
