KING CITY — Students from the Bradley Union School District paid a special visit to Gabilan School in King City last month for the second session of the Reading Buddies program this year.

The Oct. 25 event brought together Bradley students in grades 3 through 8 with students from the Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE) Special Education programs, including those in the Orthopedically Impaired, Life Skills and Preschool Programs.

During the session, Bradley students had the opportunity to practice their reading skills while working one-on-one with MCOE students.

“The Reading Buddies program not only helps to strengthen reading and comprehension skills for both groups, but also fosters meaningful connections, promoting inclusion and empathy,” according to MCOE. “This ongoing effort highlights the value of shared learning experiences and the positive impact of building community across diverse student groups.”

Just days after the Reading Buddies session, MCOE students at Gabilan School also enjoyed a Fall Festival, which included a variety of Halloween-themed activities. Highlights included face painting, games, costume dressing, pumpkin harvesting and other fun events that added to the celebration.
