SOUTH COUNTY — Two boxers from the San Ardo Boxing Club and one boxer from the King City Boxing Club traveled to Hayward on Saturday to participate in the Generation Next Showdown that was hosted by the Alameda County Deputy Sheriffs Activities League.

The amateur boxing event took place at the Hayward Adult School Gymnasium.

Ivan Almanza of the King City Boxing Club was ready to fight at 58 pounds but his opponent did not fight more experienced Almanza. The King City youngster has battled in 13 fights. Alvaro Pantoja and Kevin Perez represented the San Ardo Boxing Club and fought at 160 and 132 pounds, respectively.

“Ivan didn’t get to fight but Alvaro fought well, in a fight that could have gond either way,” said King City and San Ardo Boxing Clubs head coach Rodolfo Tapia. “We thought Kevin had won his fight and so did the people at the fight. He was the aggressor and threw the better punches but that is the way it is amateur boxing. I am proud of them as they had hard fights.”

The next competition for the local boxing clubs will be Saturday, July 21, in Sacramento.

Making the trip up north with Coach Tapia will be Ivan Almanza and Julio Martinez of the King City Boxing Club and Miguel Hernandez from the San Ardo Boxing Club.
