SOLEDAD — Assemblymember Anna Caballero has officially opened office hours at the Soledad Fire Department Office on Monterey Street.
During Caballero’s Open House on June 21, she recognized La Plaza Bakery as a small business.
“The Rodriguez family has an incredible story about coming as workers to this country and working really hard,” said Caballero. “I believe it was Jesus who started working as bakery, but he knew nothing about baking. But they taught him and gave him the opportunity to invest and buy the business.”
La Plaza Bakery is gearing up to open another store in King City, which means the family has a bakery in every city from Salinas to King City.
The Greenfield Community Science Workshop was also recognized by Caballero because the workshop teaches the importance of science and how it impacts lives. The workshop is a hybrid between a science museum, fabrication shop and nature center run by Jose Sanchez.
“It’s nice to be here because we have council members from other cities in South County and for a while we haven’t had science workshops throughout California,” said Sanchez. “We’ve been having this idea, a regional science workshop, for a while that it makes sense because we want to make science accessible.”
Caballero is hosting another Young Legislators Workshop in Gonzales this summer. The workshop works with high school students to help them learn about the legislative process and politics as well as visit the state capitol. The workshop started June 23 and runs until July 7.
Field Representative Johnny Hernandez will be at the Soledad satellite office every second and fourth Wednesday, from 1:30 to 5 p.m., at 525 Monterey St.
