KING CITY — King City Future Farmers of America recently finished their weekend Swiss sausage barbecue with an estimated total of 1,000 tickets sold, preparing them for their activities for the upcoming school year.
Last Saturday, June 23, FFA members were assisted by the King City Young Farmers, who cooked the multitude of meals.
Officers and students from the FFA, as well as the King City High School ag leadership class, put together the meal boxes and bags and took care of the drive-thru customer service.
“They wanted to help us out to start the year off right,” said King City FFA President Brianna Hernandez of the coordination between the students and the Young Farmers. “They set this up and we as officers and students started selling tickets.”
Each student was asked to pre-sell 10 tickets each, but as Hernandez explained, “If we wanted to sell more, we were glad to do it.”
The proof is in the grand total that many of the students went beyond their minimum 10 tickets.
There were also tickets sold during the weekend barbecue, held in the middle of the day at the King City Golf Course, which was busy with students running back and forth from vehicles to the preparation tables.
“We prepare the meals and run them out to the cars so they don’t have to stand in the heat,” explained Hernandez, adding that the students went to drivers, asked them for their tickets, then brought the meals to them.
Additional sponsorship was provided by Big Valley Labor and Mission Ranches.
The funds collected from the event went to the King City FFA to help the organization pay for supplies, conferences and program support, all of which takes numerous fundraisers throughout the year.
