KING CITY — A 2-year-old boy is in critical condition after falling out of a two-story apartment window and landing on a concrete patio below Tuesday afternoon.

According to the King City Police Department, the toddler was at home Sept. 5 at about 2 p.m. when he crawled through an open bedroom window while his mother was in another room of the apartment, located in the 1200 block of Amhearst Drive in King City. The child was taken to Mee Memorial Hospital before being flown to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Stanford University Medical Center, where he “remains in extremely critical condition,” police said.

The investigation is continuing. Officers said the mother has been cooperative and is at the hospital with her son.

“This is a reminder to parents, caregivers, babysitters and others that small children need to be closely monitored at all times as they can wander away or quickly get themselves into life threatening situations at an instant,” police said in a news release.
