I just read a comment by someone in favor of Measure P, keeping and raising the sales tax in King City.

I still can’t understand the logic of proposing such an increase. Our city should have an influx of additional funds just from the cost of inflation on goods sold.

Using the logic that increases are needed doesn’t make sense. For instance, let’s use a fictional price of a hamburger. Remember the $1 menu? (Yes, things cost a dollar or less.) A sales price of $1, tax about .09 cents assuming 9% sales tax. The hamburger in today’s market is say $3 plus 9% or .27 cents. Tax revenue is three times higher than before.

I’m not an accountant, but it seems like revenue should be increasing even without a tax increase.
