JOLON — There is no imminent threat from the Plaskett Fire to Fort Hunter Liggett’s cantonment area or to personnel, residents and families living or working on the installation, according to a Sept. 10 update from the FHL Public Affairs Office.
Fourteen remote training areas on the installation are now designated as “Unaffected,” while two training areas have been downgraded from “Evacuation” to “Warning.” The FHL Hunting and Fishing Program remains closed until further notice.
Fort Hunter Liggett is strengthening firebreaks, working alongside the Incident Management Team and providing personnel, heavy equipment and space for a fire base camp, according to officials.
Nacimiento-Ferguson and Del Venturi roads remain closed to public traffic. Residents who are not under county evacuation orders may still access their properties through FHL using Mission Road as a thoroughfare.
Security personnel are in place to restrict nonessential travel along Nacimiento-Ferguson and Del Venturi roads where they intersect with Mission Road, officials said.
The Plaskett Fire has burned nearly 30,000 acres along the coastal region of South Monterey County and is 79% contained as of Friday.
