KING CITY — Families, caregivers and community members will have an opportunity to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia during a free educational workshop hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association and the Del Mar Caregiver Resource Center on Tuesday, June 23.
The workshop is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s Guild Hall, located at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 301 Bassett St. in King City.
Organizers said the event is designed to help families better understand memory loss, changes in thinking and available support resources. The program will feature two presentations addressing the impact of Alzheimer’s disease and the challenges faced by caregivers.
One session, titled “Impact of Alzheimer’s and Dementia in Our Community,” will provide an overview of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, including information on emerging treatments, strategies for maintaining brain health and ways community members can support efforts to combat the disease.
A second presentation, “How to Cope With Ambiguous Loss,” will focus on the emotional challenges experienced by those caring for individuals with dementia. Organizers said the discussion will explore how relationships can change as the disease progresses and will offer practical guidance on coping, seeking support and sustaining long-term caregiving efforts.
The event will also include light refreshments and raffle prizes.
Attendance is free, but organizers encourage interested participants to register in advance. For more information or to register, call 831-356-0473, ext. 5895.
