Job fairs, recruitment events set for May
SALINAS — Monterey County Works is inviting jobseekers to attend a series of job fairs, networking opportunities and industry-specific recruitment events scheduled throughout May in Monterey County.
“We want to be sure and invite jobseekers to join us at our upcoming job fairs and recruitment next month,” said Monterey County Works Executive Director Christopher Donnelly. “There’s no need for jobseekers to register in advance, we’ll capture your information at the door.”
A Youth and Young Adult Job Fair is scheduled for May 1 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Monterey Adult School, 1295 La Salle Ave. in Seaside. An industry recruitment event focused on hospitality jobs will take place May 6 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Salinas Career Center, 344 Salinas St., Suite 203, in Salinas.
A multiple employer job fair is planned for May 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Salinas Career Center, Suites 205-206. Another industry recruitment event, focused on finance, insurance and real estate careers, is scheduled for May 20 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Salinas Career Center, Suite 203.
The month concludes with another multiple employer job fair on May 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Salinas Career Center, Suites 205-206.

Deadline nears for Future Voter Sticker Contest
MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Elections has launched its inaugural Future Voter Sticker Contest, inviting young artists throughout the county to create original designs celebrating voting and civic participation.
Winning artwork will be printed and distributed at future voting locations, outreach events and community activities across Monterey County. Selected students and their schools will also be recognized by the Monterey County Elections Department and the Monterey County Board of Supervisors.
The contest is open to local students in designated grade levels outlined in the official guidelines. Entries must follow contest requirements for size, format and theme. The submission deadline is May 1.

County seeks applicants for Airport Commission
MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County is seeking applicants to serve on the Airport Land Use Commission, which works to support sustainable airport growth, compatible surrounding land use and reduced exposure to excessive noise and safety hazards.
Open positions include a Board of Supervisors appointee and a public member representative. Applicants must be residents of Monterey County. The commission meets on the fourth Monday of each month in Monterey, and members serve four-year terms.

Fort Hunter Liggett hosts 85th anniversary open house
JOLON — Fort Hunter Liggett will celebrate its 85th anniversary with a community-wide open house on Saturday, May 2, from 3 to 9:30 p.m. at Schoonover Airfield, off Mission Road in Jolon.
The free event is open to the public and promises an afternoon and evening packed with entertainment, food and military showcases.
Guests can enjoy live music throughout the event, including performances by the Army Band, DJ Dook and Two Story Road, whose sound blends country cover favorites with original songs. Food trucks will be on site, offering a variety of dining options for attendees.
In addition to live performances, visitors can explore military displays and WWII reenactments, providing a closer look at Army history and capabilities. The celebration will conclude with a fireworks display in the evening.
Organizers invite families, community members and visitors to attend this milestone celebration and experience the unique environment of Fort Hunter Liggett.
