To the Editor:

I have always been a strong advocate for separation of church and state, as established by the country’s founders in the U.S. Constitution.

The demarcation between church and state is blurred by morality. Myth mingles with faith to bring images of Archangel Michael to secular and religious awareness today. The sword he wields in those images is said to cut through illusion.

This weekend’s irreverent blasts by the U.S. president against Pope Leo, the first American pope, seem illusionary and alarm many people worldwide.

May illusion fall before truth. May people everywhere, of any or no religion, stand for what St. Michael the Archangel signifies: calling out evil we see with our own eyes, and replacing it with the courage to elect people of integrity. To rid our countries of corrupt and self-serving leaders, as Hungary did in its historic election Sunday.
