KING CITY — This weekend, audiences are invited to experience an electrifying celebration of movement, music and artistry as “Spring into Dance” takes the stage in a dynamic joint production by Monterey County Dance Foundation and Monterey County Dance Theatre.
Unlike traditional storybook ballets, “Spring into Dance” offers an exciting new format: a curated showcase of powerful dance excerpts featuring a blend of classical ballet, contemporary works and high-energy, youth-engaging pieces. This fresh approach allows audiences to experience a wide range of styles, moods and technical brilliance all in one unforgettable performance.
Adding to the uniqueness of this production, dancers will perform to live vocalists — a rare and thrilling collaboration that brings a new level of immediacy and emotion to the stage. The fusion of live singing and dance creates a vibrant atmosphere that elevates each piece and showcases the remarkable talent of local performers.
Artistic Director Jan Harkness shared her excitement about this innovative approach.
“We are reimagining classical dance in a way that is accessible, exciting and deeply inspiring for audiences of all ages,” Harkness said. “The combination of live music and diverse choreography makes this performance unlike anything we’ve done before.”

From timeless classical technique to contemporary innovation and joyful, crowd-pleasing numbers, “Spring into Dance” offers something for everyone. It is a rare opportunity to see classical dance presented in a fresh, engaging way that resonates with both seasoned patrons and first-time theatergoers alike.
Laura Villaseñor, president of the Monterey County Dance Foundation, praised the caliber of the production.
“The dancing is superb. The level of artistry and commitment these performers bring to the stage is extraordinary,” Villaseñor said.
This is not just another recital — it is a vibrant, collaborative celebration of the arts in the community. Seats are expected to fill quickly for this unique performance event.
Performances will take place at the Robert Stanton Theater in King City on March 27 at 7 p.m., and March 28-29 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available from any MCDT student or at the door.
“Do not miss this opportunity to experience classical dance, live singing, stunning choreography and exceptional local talent all on one stage,” organizers said.
