DUI checkpoint set for Friday in King City

KING CITY — King City Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint on Friday, March 20, from 6 to 11 p.m. at an undisclosed location within the city.

Checkpoint locations are chosen based on data identifying areas with higher rates of impaired-driving crashes. The primary goal is to enhance public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” said Sgt. Anthony Shaw. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”

Authorities remind drivers that impairment is not limited to alcohol; some prescription and over-the-counter medications, as well as marijuana, can affect driving. Driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal.

The program is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
