KING CITY — King City High girls’ wrestling team had an outstanding performance at the Trojan Wrath in Salinas that was hosted by Alisal High School on Dec. 27.

The Mustang girls finished in fifth place out of 20 teams, with three finalists and one fourth-place finish.

King City’s Makayla Montoya was the champion at 125 pounds with four wins by pin. Sophia Garcia placed second at 130 pounds with three wins and one loss. Jharely Hidalgo placed second at 140 pounds with two wins and one loss, and Elena Hernandez placed fourth with two wins and two losses.

Hailey Adair, Stephanie Perez, Margarita Hernandez and Leslye Garcia-Matias also picked up victories.

On Wednesday, the King City boys will wrestle the North Salinas Vikings in Salinas and the girls’ team has a dual meet against host Alisal. Then, the girls will participate at the La Manzanita Classic in Watsonville on Thursday, and the boys’ team will head to the Apple Cider Tournament in Watsonville on Saturday.
