KING CITY — U.S. News & World Report has rated Mee Memorial Healthcare System’s long-term care skilled nursing facility as a high performer in its annual analysis.
To be recognized as one of the 2025 U.S. News Best Nursing Homes, a facility must have been “High Performing” in short-term rehabilitation, long-term care or both.
U.S. News evaluated nearly 15,000 nursing homes nationwide and rated most of them in two different categories: short-term rehabilitation and long-term care. The 2025 ratings were based on nurse staffing, patient outcomes and whether steps known to be effective in avoiding harm and improving health were built into care routines.
“The U.S. News ratings provide individuals and families with a starting point in their search for care, whether they are in need of transitional care, long-term care or are interested in a facility’s overall quality of care,” according to Mee Memorial in a news release.
Mee Memorial received a score of 5 out of 5 in the U.S. News rating system for the following criteria:
- Fewer emergency room visits;
- Ability to self-care — 87.9% of residents maintained the ability to move, eat, use the bathroom and do other common activities without help;
- Flu vaccination — 96.9% of residents received the annual influenza vaccination;
- Nurse Staffing — five hours and 12 minutes of nurse staffing per resident per day, higher than state or national averages;
- Weekend staffing; and
- Staff retention.
According to U.S. News & World Report, approximately 1.2 million individuals, including 8% of people in the United States age 85 and above, will reside in a nursing home. In an effort to help families research and find a nursing home that excels in the type of care they need, U.S. News ranks facilities each year much like it does its popular college ranking system.
