JOLON — Fort Hunter Liggett (FHL) and its Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) program celebrated military children and the great outdoors with its 23rd Annual Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday at Del Venturi Pond.

The April 26 event welcomed young anglers up to age 15, encouraging youth of all skill levels to compete for prizes in various age categories. Military and local families bonded over fishing, enjoying a day of fun and friendly competition at the pond.

“We are beyond grateful to everyone who made it possible — from our incredible sponsors, dedicated MWR staff, hardworking volunteers and every family, resident and community member who came out to share this special day,” posted FHL on social media afterward. “The smiles on the children’s faces say it all — this event continues to bring so much joy and connection to our community.”
