KING CITY — On a sunny December afternoon outside Mee Memorial Hospital in King City, the spirit of giving was alive and well. The Salvation Army’s annual holiday drive, part of the KSBW “Share Your Holiday” campaign, drew community members together to support families in need throughout South Monterey County and San Benito County.

At the heart of the Dec. 6 event stood Christina Navarro, the Salvation Army’s social intake coordinator, warmly greeting donors and volunteers. With her dedication and the community’s support, the organization will provide food, toys and holiday cheer to more than 250 families in each city it serves, including King City, Greenfield, Soledad and Gonzales.

“Everything (donations) that we get today do stay local,” Navarro emphasized during an interview. “So we don’t take it elsewhere. It stays within your cities.”

The day’s highlight was a generous $5,000 donation from California Resources Corporation (CRC). A representative from CRC joined Navarro under a festive canopy, presenting the ceremonial check as a symbol of the corporation’s commitment to supporting local communities.

Donations for the “Share Your Holiday” campaign can be made in several ways. Community members can visit the campaign’s website at give-gs.salvationarmy.org/campaign/ksbw-share-your-holiday-2024/c620400 or call the Salvation Army directly at 831-443-9655 for more information. In addition, a QR code is available for those who prefer to donate quickly and easily via their smartphones.

Among the colorful toys displayed on the donation table and the smiling faces of volunteers, it was clear that the South Monterey County community is committed to making a difference.
