KING CITY — The volleyball season came to an end for the King City Lady Mustangs last Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the Central Coast Section Division III playoffs.
King City fell in three games (25-22, 25-14, 25-22) to the Capuchino Mustangs of San Bruno. King City hosted the contest as the No. 2 seed of Division III, while Capuchino was No. 10 seed.
“It was not the outcome we were expecting, but it was a great night,” said King City head coach Christine Luna. “I always tell my teams that it is an honor to make it to the playoffs, as not everyone gets this opportunity, so go out and make the best of it. We knew going in that it was going to be a defensive battle, and it was with some long rallies we had. The atmosphere, the crowd and student section made it a fun match. It’s never fun to get eliminated at home, but it does not take away the great season we had. We took a big jump in the Gabilan Division this year, finishing fourth with an overall record of 18-10. I am very proud of the team and the success we had this year. Looking forward to next year.”
Hollyn Hearne had 11 kills and 11 digs in the game and Amity Hearne had 11 kills and eight digs. Iran Ibarra, Hayden Munoz and Avery Munoz combined for six kills and 16 digs. Xienna Novoa had 26 digs and two aces and Janesa Lopez added 21 assists and 11 digs.
King City Lady Mustangs finished the season with a 7-7 league record and were 18-11 overall.
