VETERANS CELEBRATION

MONTEREY COUNTY — All 12 awardees for the 34th Monterey County Veteran of the Year celebration will be inducted into that elite corps. Each will receive a medallion and certificates from the Board of Supervisors, along with other honors. Veterans of the Year are selected by supervisorial district with two honorees from each district, plus two additional recipients at large. Each awardee has volunteered their time to help veterans. The United Veterans Council and the Military Veterans Affairs Advisory Commission will present each new awardee on Nov. 1, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Seaside Room at the Monterey County Fairgrounds. RECYCLING & CLEANUP EVENTS

KING CITY — A King City Community Drop-Off Event will take place Saturday, Nov. 2, from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds, 625 Division St. Accepted items include mattresses, appliances, yard waste, electronics, metals, furniture and tires (limit two per vehicle). Neither commercial dumping nor trash will be accepted. There will also be a full household hazardous waste collection by appointment on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition, King City in Bloom will host a cleanup event on Saturday from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Volunteers will meet at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds, 625 Division St., to pick up gloves and bags. Free coffee and donuts will be available.


CHOWDER DINNER

LOCKWOOD — The fourth annual Clam Chowder Dinner, a fundraiser for Nacitone Museum, will take place Saturday, Nov. 2, from 2 to 6 p.m. for dine-in or take-out at the Lockwood Community Center. The meal includes chowder, bread, salad and bottled water, with beer and wine available for purchase. Tickets can be bought from the Pine Canyon Store, Pleyto Store and all Nacitone directors.


BONUS BRIEF: CHAMBER MIXER

KING CITY — Monterey County Dance Foundation, in collaboration with the King City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, will host a community mixer on Nov. 2 at 5 p.m. to celebrate 65 years of “Nutcracker Ballet” tradition with the Monterey County Dance Theatre (MCDT). The event promises an evening of wine, treats and camaraderie at MCDT, located at the intersection of Bassett and Vanderhurst. Community members are invited to join in this festive occasion marking a milestone in the region’s cultural history.
