KING CITY — The City of King is set to transform the downtown area into a vibrant hub for non-motorized transportation enthusiasts during the King City Ciclovía event on Sunday, Oct. 13, from 12 to 4 p.m.

The event will see Broadway Street — from First Street to San Lorenzo Avenue — closed to vehicle traffic, inviting walkers, cyclists, runners and other forms of non-motorized movement to enjoy the streets safely.

This initiative is part of the city’s broader commitment to becoming a Blue Zones Project community, focusing on promoting health and well-being among residents.

“It is part of a variety of efforts undertaken throughout the year in support of the City’s efforts to become a Blue Zones Project community,” according to City Manager Steve Adams.

Attendees can look forward to a day filled with engaging activities, entertainment and family-friendly attractions, such as bounce houses and games. In addition, there will be opportunities to savor healthy food options at discounted prices, along with raffle prizes and information on local community and social services.

The entertainment schedule features local bands Herencia Humilde and Juanito Aguilar y Su Grupo Coronado, as well as performances by Ballet Folklorico Tapatio and a preview of Sol Treasure’s upcoming musical. Activities throughout the day will include dancing, exercising, downtown historical walks, hula hooping and other contests, along with a children’s bike parade — so everyone is encouraged to bring their bikes.

To enhance the experience, the first 1,500 attendees will receive $3 food booth coupons, and the first 500 families will be awarded a complimentary food box. Participants will also be entered into a drawing for adult and children’s bicycles, $100 and $250 gift cards and a $500 grand prize.

“The City would like to recognize the event major sponsors, which include TAMC, Mee Memorial Healthcare System, Rio Farms, Salinas Valley Health, SGH Holdings and Benitez Security Services,” Adams said.

The Ciclovia event aims to foster a sense of community, providing a space for residents to gather and promote a healthier lifestyle.

“The event is an opportunity for the entire community to come together, have fun and improve health and happiness,” Adams said.
