SAN LUCAS ā€” Monterey County Superintendent of Schools Deneen Guss recently paid a visit to three small elementary schools ā€” San Lucas, San Ardo and Bradley ā€” in southern Monterey County.

As part of the visit, educational leaders for each school led Guss on a tour of the campus and classrooms, where she met and greeted students, teachers and employees.

ā€œScheduling regular visits to school sites provides additional time and space to discuss the resource needs of smaller schools, such as facility, employment and health and safety,ā€ according to the Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE).

Superintendent Guss uses this time to assess how MCOE can best support the needs of each school and the students it serves.

ā€œBeing able to identify and share practices that effectively address the academic, behavioral and social-emotional needs of students is also crucial to cultivating a healthy learning environment,ā€ stated MCOE.

Due to the limited staff size at small school districts, collaboration between teachers, administration and other educational staff can be challenging. As a result, collaboration between educational leaders allows for a broader distribution of resources that help meet the needs of students and families.

ā€œMCOE is proud to lead, support, serve, as well as learn and grow alongside our small districts and will continue to collaborate with one another to elevate the success of students and teachers,ā€ the county agency stated.
