To the Editor:

Well, it is happening again. I am accused of a “crime” and the evidence is a grainy photo. I received a letter from Waste Management that said we would be fined for putting plastic bags and film in our garbage. This is interesting because we just gave three large garbage bags full of plastic grocery bags to Loaves and Fishes.

Waste Management sent us a picture of garbage that is unrecognizable to prove our “crime.” The picture is not our recycling from last week. Our recycling was filled with Amazon boxes that were broken down properly and bottles and cans that were washed. We have called Waste Management, but of course, no one was there, and no one has returned our call.

We are environmentalists. I have lived in my house for 20 years and have planted over 80 trees that shade my house and yard. I have torn out our front lawn and planted native plants to save water. We had solar panels installed and only use LED lights. We are starting to trade out windows in order to install more efficient ones.

Do we have to take pictures of our recycling in order to protect ourselves? We know we are doing the right thing, and yet we don’t know what to do. Should we just get a bigger garbage bin and forget about recycling?
