KING CITY — Students who attended the Sol Treasures Summer Camp had an opportunity to display what they learned during a Summer Camp Performance last Wednesday in the Sol Treasures yard area.
The camp had 67 total youth attendees divided into four age groups, each of which created a group skit.
Camp Coordinator Marisol Sanchez said the students wrote their own stories and came up with their own skit ideas. That creativity came during the second week, after they went through a first week of foundational skills with karate and team building.
“It was a really wonderful experience for everyone involved because coming out of virtual learning, we had large numbers of our students who have never been in a physical classroom, they’ve only experienced classrooms behind a computer,” Sanchez said.
She explained that after more than a year in pandemic virtual learning mode, the summer camp offered communication and collaboration opportunities for the students.
The summer camp lasted two weeks, with the 10 days of weekday camp having four hours of group learning for ages 6 through 17. They discussed their emotions and how to communicate them and eventually culminated everything into their skit performances.
The yard area allowed for an audience of several dozen to watch the public performances on July 28.
