SOUTH COUNTY — Tickets are now available for the fun and fabulous Trashion Show, which returns to South County next month for the fourth year.
This unique fashion show transforms everyday trash — coffee bags, papers, candy wrappers and more — into one-of-a-kind dresses worthy of New York’s fashion runways. The theme for the 2019 show is “The Old West” and features more than 20 creative dresses as well as a new half-time performance.
The event takes place Thursday, Feb. 21, at 11:30 a.m. in the Orradre Building at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City.
The annual show is a luncheon fundraiser to benefit Alliance on Aging (AOA), a nonprofit serving seniors throughout Monterey County, including the King City area, for 48 years.
New this year to AOA is the Transportation Assistance program. Launched in May 2018, this program provides seniors, on a one-on-one basis, on how to access the public transportation system. The program will help reduce isolation and re-engage seniors in their communities.
Other services offered by the AOA include: tax preparation assistance, Medicare information and counseling, long-term information and advocacy for the elderly living in care facilities, senior peer counseling and benefits checking for basic needs, such as food, transportation and utilities.
All AOA services are provided in English and Spanish at no cost to seniors.
Returning this year will be Fashion Presenter Audra Vaccarezza, a fourth-generation South County resident, along with Monterey County Sheriff Steve Bernal, a native of King City, who will begin the show with an official welcome to the anticipated 300-plus guests.
“Trashion Show allows me the opportunity to give back to the community,” Vaccarezza said. “It is wonderful to see so many of our community members, artists, models and volunteers working together to help bring awareness to the needs of seniors.”
Vaccarezza’s goal is to bring the excitement of the artists and models from the backstage to the audience as she narrates the show.
Paulette Bumbalough, a Trashion Show committee member and organizer, echoed the same sentiment.
“It is rewarding to see the community coming together to learn about AOA and seeing their excitement in creating dresses from recycled materials and having fun modeling them,” Bumbalough said.
