KING CITY — King City High wrestling team won two dual meets in the Mission Division last Thursday night at Greenfield High School.

The Mustangs routed the Carmel Padres 72-12 and beat Everett Alvarez 47-35 in a come-from-behind win.

“Standouts of the day included Armando Villasenor (175 pounds) and Ivan Paramo (157 pounds),” said King City head coach Miguel Zendejas. “They came up with a couple of wins by pin. Other standouts included Jesus Mandujano (120 pounds), who came from behind in the third period in an important swing match. Lastly, Sebastian Lizardi (190 pounds) avenged a previous loss against Carmel wrestler Dominik Ranansky with a dominant pin.”

Last Tuesday in Cypress Division girls’ wrestling dual meets, Gonzales beat Pacific Grove 24-6 and lost 24-9 against Soledad High.

Against Pacific Grove, Gonzales’ Emily Ramos won by fall and Mailyn Amador and Cherish Yebra had forfeit wins.

In the Gonzales-Soledad match, Emily Quevedo of Gonzales won by decision, Naemi De Santos of Soledad defeated Amador by fall; Yebra won by fall over Aliyah Gutierrez of Soledad, and Clarissa Rico of Gonzales won by fall.

Last Wednesday in the Cypress boys’ wrestling dual meet, Gonzales lost 30-18 to host Pacific Grove and 53-12 to the North Monterey County Condors.

Gabriel Prieto of Gonzales won by fall against Pacific Grove, and teammates Marvin Pena and Josiah Rosales-Garcia won by forfeit. The Spartans lost four matches by forfeit. Against North County, Prieto and Rosales-Garcai won by fall.

Gonzales hosted a dual meet competition Wednesday night against St. Francis, Seaside and Pajaro Valley.

On Tuesday night, King City hosted a dual meet against Monte Vista Christian, and Greenfield wrestled Monte Vista Christian in the same meet.
