SALINAS VALLEY — King City High’s boys wrestling team won a pair of dual meets in league competition to remain undefeated.
The Mustangs defeated Everett Alvarez, 48-36, last Wednesday and on the next day beat the North Monterey County Condors, 42-39. King City rallied with three straight wins against the Condors to come back after facing a 39-24 deficit.
Angel Rodriguez, Armando Villasenor and Nate Vargas picked up pins in both duals for the Mustangs.
At the Jim Root Memorial on Saturday, hosted by Prospect High School in San Jose, Angel Becerra was the lone King City placer. Becerra picked up three victories along with two losses en route to a fourth-place finish at 106 pounds.
Another notable finisher for King City was Julian Rodriguez, who was a consolation finalist.
The King City varsity girls fell short against Salinas High in a head-to-head dual meet, but Shyrah Jackson, Makayla Montoya and Sophia Garcia had victories.
On Wednesday, the Mustangs have a dual meet against Monte Vista Christian in the Mustang gym.
Gonzales High had two wrestlers place at the Overfelt Classic in San Jose on Saturday.
Freshman Andrew Tejeda placed sixth at 215 pounds and junior Cristian Zazueta also placed sixth in the heavyweight division.
This week the Gonzales JV boys and varsity girls will be at Lynbrook High School in San Jose for the second Man Challenge and the Ladies Challenge.
