SOUTH MONTEREY COUNTY — The Westside Fuel Break in South Monterey County is making significant progress, announced Cal Fire BEU on March 5.
In collaboration with the Bureau of Land Management, this critical fuels reduction project is strengthening wildfire defenses using a combination of strategies: dozers and graders constructing a fire road; masticators thinning dead and dying brush; and pile burning to safely remove larger debris.
“This coordinated effort is creating a strategic fuel break designed to slow or stop rapidly growing wildfires, helping protect nearby communities and natural resources,” stated Cal Fire BEU.
