KING CITY — With the help of local youth and community volunteers, more than 500 wreaths placed on veterans’ graves during December’s worldwide Wreaths Across America Day were recycled Jan. 17 at King City Cemetery.
Students from King City High School, including members of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), Senior Leadership and Future Farmers of America, joined members from Lockwood 4-H and the Southern Monterey County Republican Women Federated to remove decorations and prepare the greenery for reuse.
The annual recycling effort honors veterans while promoting sustainability, with natural foliage made available for farm animal use.
Students also earned community service hours, turning the event into both an act of remembrance and civic engagement.
