Teacher Pathway Program welcomes 31 future educators

Hartnell Community College District hosted a ceremony last Thursday at its King City Education Center to welcome 31 students from South County who are part of the second cohort of the Teacher Pathway Program.

Wind sculptures to adorn city streets

Local streets may soon be adorned with wind sculptures after the City of King received the go-ahead to place them in public places, taking advantage of the region’s strong gusts while continuing an effort to beautify the area.

Young legislators

Nearly 40 students participated in Assembly Member Anna Caballero’s Young Legislators Program in South County and Salinas, with 24 participants from the South Monterey County Program and 14 in the Salinas Program.

HEROES OF HOPE

Hundreds turned out this past weekend to show support for the sixth annual Relay for Life of King City, which has raised more than $58,000 so far in donations this year for the American Cancer Society.

King City completes first Measure X project

King City is celebrating the completion of the first ā€œMeasure X Projectā€ in Monterey County today, Aug. 9, at 10 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the corner of Vivian Street and Haven Drive, hosted by the Transportation Agency for Monterey County.

Students awarded scholarships

Southern Monterey County Republican Women Federated awarded $1,000 scholarships to Bret Wilkins from King City High School and Luz Andrea Perez-Ponce from Greenfield High School.

One Night Out

King City once again participated in the annual National Night Out campaign on Aug. 1, bringing police officers and neighbors together for one night to unite against crime.

Nonprofits awarded $15,000 in grants

Southern Monterey County Foundation has awarded its third year of grants totaling $15,000 for 11 nonprofit organizations serving South County residents, bringing its overall contribution to local communities to more than $50,000 since 2014.

Fire destroys ranch house

A ranch house was completely destroyed in a fire last Thursday in the Jolon and San Lucas roads area south of King City, displacing the home’s family who lost everything.

UnitedAg extends services to South County

Seven health and wellness clinics, including two in South County, have been added to UnitedAg’s growing network that serves California farmworkers and their families.
