Cooling Centers offer relief from weekend heat

A three-day heat wave took over much of California just in time for Labor Day weekend, and the National Weather Service announced an excessive heat advisory warning for Monterey County and the San Francisco Bay Area. To combat the heat and protect residents, South County cities set up cooling centers and stations.

Cities host immigrant information sessions

A pair of immigrant information sessions are scheduled for Saturday in Greenfield and King City with officers from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services who will be available to answer general immigration questions from the community.

Gonzales student’s heritage hog sells for $33K

Gonzales High School FFA Chapter President and Monterey Bay Sectional Reporter Samantha Santos, who was selected as the Monterey County Fair’s 2017 Heritage Scholarship winner, auctioned off two hogs Sept. 2 at the fair, one of which — the heritage hog — sold for more than $33,000.

King City hosts ā€˜cooling center’ this weekend

Due to excessive heat conditions predicted for the next two days, the City of King will be sponsoring a ā€œcooling centerā€ to provide relief for residents impacted by the hot weather.

New flashing warning signs approved for school crossing

King City Council has approved a pair of new solar-powered flashing warning signs for the crosswalk serving King City High School at Broadway and Canal streets to improve the safety of students and other pedestrians walking in the area.
