MONTEREY COUNTY — The 11th annual Touch-A-Truck rolled into the Salinas Rodeo Grounds on Sept. 7, drawing more than 2,000 ticketed guests for a day of family fun that combined big rigs, community spirit and philanthropy.

Together, participants, sponsors and volunteers raised more than $65,000 to benefit Coastal Kids Home Care, California’s only nonprofit pediatric home health agency.

The event brought together 65 working vehicles — from fire trucks and tractors to garbage trucks and specialty rigs — giving children the chance to climb aboard and explore. The day was powered by 98 volunteers, 22 community partners, 17 sponsors, 10 in-kind donors, eight food vendors and seven entertainment groups, along with a special train ride that delighted families.

“This event is a true testament to the generosity of our community,” said Margy Mayfield, founder and CEO of Coastal Kids Home Care. “Every ticket, every sponsor and every volunteer makes it possible for Coastal Kids to continue delivering vital in-home nursing and counseling services to children living with illness and disability.”

Touch-A-Truck was made possible thanks to the generosity of its sponsors, including presenting sponsor Don Chapin Co., and convoy sponsors Pinnacle Bank and Star One Credit Union. Their leadership, along with support from additional community sponsors and donors, ensure the event’s continued success.

Founded in 2005, Coastal Kids Home Care provides nursing, palliative and counseling services for medically fragile children across Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito and Santa Clara counties. In 2024 alone, the nonprofit completed more than 12,000 in-home nursing visits and 2,600 counseling sessions, ensuring care is accessible regardless of income or insurance status.
